Great post! Westworld is such a thought-provoking series, and I agree that it offers a chilling glimpse into the potential future of AI. The idea of creating AI in our own image, with all our complexities and desires, is both fascinating and unsettling. I also share your concern about losing control over AI as it becomes more autonomous, especially with the possibility of recursive self-improvement. It’s a fine line between innovation and danger, and Westworld really nails that tension. The ethical implications are huge, and I’m curious how we’ll navigate them as technology advances. Thank you for sharing!
Really thought-provoking piece, and perfectly timed for me as I just finished Season 1 of Westworld. The writing is absolutely phenomenal. Another fantastic quote by Dr. Ford:
'We can't define consciousness because consciousness does not exist. Humans fancy that there's something special about the way we perceive the world, and yet we live in loops as tight and as closed as the hosts do, seldom questioning our choices, content, for the most part, to be told what to do next.'
Interesting as I get ready to to do a talk to university students where I am telling them to all get more involved so that at least if it looks like us, it will look like ALL of us. Hmmm.
Still remember watching Season 1. At work we named our first GPU server for Al tranings "Dolores" in 2019.
I love that!

Thanks for your response, Marteena. Much appreciated. We certainly live in interesting times (and that in many ways feels like an understatement).
Great piece!
Much appreciated, Agustin.
Well, you just scared the bajeezus out of me! LOL. Intriguing to ponder.

I love that quote, too. Especially the part of people being stuck in their loops.

Curious to hear your takeaways, Diana! Diversity and representation in AI is absolutely an important topic.
